Getting a Marketplace or Store Purchase Delivered in Maryland
Found the perfect couch on Facebook Marketplace, or a great deal at a store that doesn't deliver? Here's how to get it home without a truck of your own.
Before you book the pickup
- Pay the seller first, or agree on exactly how payment will happen. Drivers don't collect money for you.
- Confirm the seller's address and a time window when someone will be there to release the item.
- Measure the item and your doorways, including stairs and tight turns at your home.
- Ask about access at the pickup: stairs, elevator, and where to park.
- Check that it's ready to move. Appliances should be disconnected and drained, and furniture should be emptied.
When you request delivery
- Use the seller's address as the pickup and yours as the drop-off.
- Pick the closest weight range. Most sofas and dressers are well under 500 lb; washers and refrigerators are often 150 to 350 lb.
- In the details, describe the item and any stairs or long carries at either end.
- Choose loading help if there won't be someone strong at both ends.
On pickup day
- Give the seller a heads-up that a driver is coming, with the driver's name if you have it.
- Ask the seller to have the item near the door if possible. It's faster and safer.
- Be home for delivery, and check the item when it arrives.
